History

Rich with history and vibrancy Haldimand County has many historic sites to see. Haldimand County is part of the Six Nations Reserve but is independent. The reserve is home to the Mohawks and they preserve their traditions and always welcome visitors to share in the beauty of their traditions. Haldimand is home to many historical buildings some of which have been known to be haunted. The Edinburgh Square and Heritage Center formerly known as the Caledonia Town Hall is now an active reference archive and educational centre. Over 150 years old this building was once a jail and to this day still has its cells. The archive holds many important documents to preserve the county’s history. There are many historical sites to see for all residents and visitors!
