This town has beautiful and stunning beaches like the Penetanguishene Rotary Park, Huronia Park and Bob Sullivan Park. They all have great swimming areas during the summer months, as well as playgrounds many with accessibility friendly options. Other attractions that encourage a community atmosphere is the Discovery Harbours which, was the Naval Ship Yard in the 1800’s. This historic site has stunning scenic views of the water and trees. Take your loved ones out on the replica ships and tour the magnificent bay. Residents have the opportunity to visit the local Sports Hall of Fame which has an impressive display and video tributes to local heroes Brian Orser skating legend and Jean Thompson.

Pentanguishene is a community rich in cultural history. The City’s name originated from the Ojibwe meaning “land of the white and rolling sands”, where the indigenous peoples founded this area. The “land of the white and rolling sands” is thought to be a descriptor for the beautiful sandy beaches and rolling waters at the northern tip of the Georgian Bay. In the 1800’s is was home to French-speaking families in the trade business and later on evolved into English-speaking as the logging industry boomed. Many of the residents are bilingual in nature to cherish Canada’s national languages.

Recreation

There is plenty to do in this lively community when it comes to the summertime months you can find a beach, or hike and bike one of the many trails. There are lots of docks for taking your boat out on the beautiful water or go sailing. At the community centre there are programs for everyone to learn something new, camps and hobbies or crafts. In the fall, the scenery in Pentanguishene will show you the many colours of the trees. Lastly, the winter season means fishing out on the water, snowshoeing or finding a cozy nook in the local library to curl up and read. There is something for everyone.
