History

Charlottetown was named after Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Queen Consort of the United Kingdom. It was originally an unincorporated town that became a city in the year 1855. Between September 1 and September 8, 1864, the city of Charlottetown hosted the present Charlottetown Conference.
