Orillia

The City of Orillia is located just 90 minutes outside from the Greater Toronto Area. Known for its small-town charm this growing city looks forward to the future while celebrating and honouring the past. Orillia is bordered by two beautiful lakes – Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching – where residents can enjoy all the outdoor activities in all seasons. There are many opportunities for outdoor activities in all seasons like visiting one of the Great Lakes of Ontario Lake Simcoe. Visit the local Casino Rama and enjoy some amazing performances of visiting artists, or take a tour of the Ontario Provincial Police Headquarters. The local community centers have endless options of activities fun for the whole family or those wanting to try something new, there is something for everyone. Every year there are festivals for residents to enjoy free music, experience local vendors and good food. Take your family or spouse and visit the Orillia Opera House built in 1895. The theatre is a landmark of downtown Orillia hosting many artists including Ted Talks, comedians, local artists and artists on tour there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Orillia is known as the “Sunshine City” getting its name from local famed artist Stephen Leacock who nicknamed the city after one of his pieces which, can be found at the Stephen Leacock Museum a national treasure. The Stephen Leacock Museum also holds one of the Group of Seven painter Franklin Carmichael’s artwork and sculptures by Elizabeth Wyn Wood. Many people travel to get a glimpse of these iconic national treasures. Culture, Art and History are deeply embedded in Orillia capturing the artistic passion in Canada whilst maintaining a close-nit community. Orillia also happens to be the birthplace of the legendary folk singer Gordon Lightfoot who currently lives in Windsor but visits the Orillia Opera House from time to time.
